Frequently asked questions

When you forward a message, you can choose to share it with up to five chats at one time. However, when a message is forwarded through a chain of five or more chats, meaning it’s at least five forwards away from its original sender, the message is labeled with a double arrow icon . These messages can only be forwarded to one chat at a time, as a way to help keep conversations on WhatsApp intimate and personal. This also helps slow down the spread of rumors, viral messages, and fake news.
You can easily update WhatsApp from your phone's application store. Please note if you received a message that isn't supported by your version of WhatsApp, you'll need to update WhatsApp. We encourage you to always use the latest version of WhatsApp. Latest versions contain the newest features and bug fixes.

Last seen and online tell you the last time your contacts used WhatsApp, or if they're online. If a contact is online, they have WhatsApp open in the foreground on their device and are connected to the Internet. However, it doesn't necessarily mean the contact has read your message. Last seen refers to the last time the contact used WhatsApp. Through our privacy settings, you have the option to control who can see your last seen. Please note you can't hide your online. There are a few reasons why you might not be able to see a contact's last seen: They might have set their privacy settings to hide this information. You might have set your privacy settings to not share your last seen. If you don't share your last seen, you can't see other contacts' last seen. You might have been blocked.
If you become banned, you'll receive the following message from within WhatsApp: "Your phone number is banned from using WhatsApp. Contact support for help." If you’re having issues using the change number feature, make sure that: The old phone number you entered is currently registered on your WhatsApp account. You can see what phone number is registered by going to WhatsApp Settings, then tapping your profile photo icon. If your old phone number isn’t registered, please register it first before you attempt to change your phone number again. You have an active and working SIM card for the new phone number you want to use with WhatsApp. You have a strong and stable cellular connection. Your phone has sufficient internal storage. If you’re having issues registering your new phone number after you’ve changed your phone number, please read more about registration on Android or iPhone. Note: Changing your phone number isn't supported on KaiOS. However, you can register your new phone number on WhatsApp by going through the registration process. Your old account information won't be transferred to the new phone number and you'll lose your individual and group chats.

Incorrect timestamps on messages If the timestamp displayed on your received messages or the last seen time of your contacts are incorrect, please check the time and time zone configuration on your phone. You might need to re-adjust them. We recommend setting your date and time to Automatic or Network Provided. With this setting enabled, your mobile provider will set your phone to the correct time. If the incorrect time is displayed even with this setting enabled, then there might be an issue with your network. Please contact your mobile provider to address the issue.
